Tartu_Maraton

Tartu Marathon — 17-18 February

If you're eager to hit the slopes, head over to South Estonia for the Tartu Marathon. For over 60 years, this event has been renowned as one of the premier ski competitions globally, drawing numerous participants from both domestic and international backgrounds annually.

With options of 63 km and 31 km classic cross-country tracks, as well as an Open Track race, a Relay Marathon, and races tailored for children, there's something for everyone. Additionally, you have the opportunity to virtually join the marathon at any time – even right now, while the snow conditions are optimal.

The Tartu Marathon, situated in Southern Estonia, is affiliated with the Worldloppet, Estoloppet, and Russialoppet calendars, along with the Visma Ski Classics Pro Tour professional series.

Estonian Independence Day — 24 February

If your muscles are feeling the strain from the Tartu Marathon, fret not – just a few days later, on 24 February, a national holiday awaits. You can indulge in sprat sandwiches and enjoy watching the parade, concerts, and speeches on TV.

The parade typically features over 800 participants, nearly 50 vehicles, 42 flags, 4 military organizations, 2 units, 8 platoons, and 2 orchestras. Representing our allies are flag holders from the United States, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine. Units from the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence of the United Kingdom and Denmark, as well as units from France and the United States, are also regular participants, creating a captivating spectacle for both young and old. The evening usually culminates with a presidential reception in Tallinn.

Tallinn Music Week — 3-7 April

Tallinn Music Week (TMW) stands as the largest indoor music festival in the Nordic and Baltic regions, showcasing close to 200 Estonian and international artists spanning various musical genres.

Drawing in around 25,000 attendees from both Estonia and beyond, the festival in Tallinn offers not only the main events at key clubs and concert venues in the city but also provides a glimpse into the lesser-known aspects of Tallinn. Stage performances, the TMW Stories series, the culinary festival TMW Tastes, and the contemporary art program TMW Art will unfold at various locations throughout Tallinn.

Jazzkaar – 20 April-28 April

For over two decades, Jazzkaar has been hosting an esteemed international jazz festival in Tallinn, establishing itself as the largest of its kind in the Baltic region.

Alongside the main event held in April, music enthusiasts can also relish in the enchanting melodies of Christmas Jazz in December, which resonates through churches, concert halls, and clubs at the close of November and the start of December. Additionally, Jazzkaar curates concert seasons for Winter Jazz and Autumn Jazz, offering a diverse array of jazz performances throughout the year.

Tartu Cycling Rally — 25-26 May

Known as Tartu Rattaralli, this prominent cycling event transforms Tartu into a haven for cyclists at the end of May. The race kicks off and concludes in the center of Tartu, offering participants a choice of three distances: 128, 60, or 27 kilometers.

The scenic routes guide cyclists through the stunning landscapes of South Estonia. Additionally, on May 25, a highly anticipated children's race, one of the largest in the world, takes place.

Simple Session – 21-25 August

Whether you possess a hint of enthusiasm for extreme sports or simply enjoy witnessing daring stunts on skateboards and bikes, Simple Session is the event for you. As Europe's premier extreme sports competition, it promises thrills for both participants and spectators alike.

While traditionally hosted in Tallinn, the event will return to its birthplace in Tartu in 2024. The focal point of the competition will be Kammivabrik, a refurbished comb factory now serving as a trendy event venue in the Karlova neighborhood.

Song and Dance Festival — 3-6 July, 2025

The upcoming significant festival is scheduled for the summer of 2025. The ambiance at this festival is beyond words and must be personally experienced, whether as an active participant or an observer.

Tallinn's Song Festival Grounds are packed with tens of thousands of spectators and performers, leaving no space unfilled. To partake in the festivities, it is advisable to plan your travel and accommodation well in advance, as spots tend to fill up quickly.

FIA European Rally Championship Rally Estonia – 5-7 July

The highlight of the summer is the ERC Rally, an adrenaline-pumping event that spans across most of Southern Estonia. In 2024, it will be a part of the European Rally Championship, followed by its inclusion in the World Rally Championship in 2025, a privilege Estonia acquired only recently.

Held every August and September in Tallinn, Estonia, the Tallinn Fringe Festival is a vibrant celebration of the arts. This open-access festival unites international and local artists in diverse venues throughout Tallinn.

Following the model of other fringe festivals globally, this event champions both emerging and established artists, with the curation process being a collaboration between the venue and the performer rather than the festival itself selecting participants.
